Canadian Cancer Society Advocates a Ban on Flavoured Cigarillos
According to the Canadian Press, the Cancer Society of the country has called for a ban on the favourite tobacco product of teenagers - flavoured cigarillos. After conducting a large-scale national survey, the Cancer Society has come to a conclusion that a large percentage of teenagers tend to experiment with smoking cigarillos, as opposed to ordinary cigarettes. The organization predicts that, if a governmental ban on this tobacco product is imposed, fewer teenagers will be attracted to a harmful habit of smoking.

New Animal Study Confirms That Smoking during Pregnancy is Major Risk Factor for SIDS
A recently conducted research has provided evidence that smoking during pregnancy can be directly associated with the baby’s risk for SIDS, or Sudden Infant Death Syndrome. Although a link between prenatal exposure to cigarette poisons from the smoking mother and SIDS was suspected long ago, the new trial confirms that it can be a key factor in sudden death of the infant. Other causes include irregularities in the heart beat, disruptions of breathing, faults of the nervous system and overheating.

Although “conventional wisdom” states that smoking can be beneficial for depressed people, scientific studies show that, on the contrary, the reverse is true. A new trial conducted by US scientists has demonstrated that depression in teenagers can actually be caused by smoking cigarettes.

Smoking in Linked to Increased Levels of Depression, Anxiety, and Other Mental Illnesses: New Studies
A new study conducted by Spanish researchers from the University of Navarra shows that smokers are significantly more likely to suffer from clinical depression than non-smokers. This finding has been confirmed and expanded by another, independent study carried out by an international team of scientists from King’s College (England), Norwegian Institute of Public Health, and University of Bergen. According to the latter study, smoking can trigger not only depression, but also anxiety disorder.
Environmental Tobacco Smoke Raises Risk of Cardiovascular Disease in Toddlers and Teenagers

We all know that smoking is bad for the heart. But what about inhaling second-hand smoke by non-smokers, especially children? A new study examining the effects of second-hand tobacco smoke on the health of toddlers and teens has revealed that the chronic exposure elevates the children’s risk of developing heart disease later in life. The study was performed by the Columbus Nationwide Children’s Hospital and Research Institute’s Center for Cardiovascular Medicine, Ohio, and presented at the Cardiovascular Disease Epidemiology and Prevention Meeting of the American Heart Association.
