How to Stop Smoking Weed

There are dozens of different techniques on how to quit smoking cigarettes, but when it comes to smoking marijuana, things get more complicated, because the quitting person is addicted here in a different way. However, as much as with cigarettes, quitting smoking “weed” takes time, strong will and some work.

Step 1. Set a quitting date.

Decide when you quit. This can be a special date like the first day of a quarter, a holiday, or simply the coming week end. It is important to realize that quitting smoking marijuana is a decision which changes a person’s lifestyle and if it is connected to some other lifestyle change, for example, you start quitting on the first day of a vacation, the quitting process goes easier.

Do not set the date too far from the moment you decided that quitting smoking was necessary and you could do it. Use the closest special day or life changing opportunity to start a new life without the weed.

Step 2. Get rid of everything related to marijuana.

It is obvious that the temptation will not be as strong if the weed and all tools for smoking it are out of reach. There will be some weak moments when the cravings are so strong that it is hard to resist. In these situations a person looks for even tiny crumbs of the drug: on the floor, in the pockets and even in trash, but there should be none in order to quit successfully.

Step 3. Fight the right kind of addiction.

Similar to tobacco, marijuana gives two aspects of addiction: physical and mental. A quitting person has to fight such withdrawal symptoms as insomnia, irritability, anxiety, increased heart rhythm, and soreness. Along with these, psychological dependence of the weed is very strong and many people underestimate or neglect this aspect when they stop. The feeling of being high strongly sits in a smoker’s mind. Sometimes a person does not have addiction to marijuana itself, but to the feeling of being high which is very hard to go away from.
