Certain Foods May Help In Quitting Smoking
American researchers have come to the conclusion that certain foods may be beneficial for those who want to get rid of a harmful habit of smoking. The reason is in the taste - some natural products, including milk, fruits and vegetables, simply make the cigarette smoke taste bad, which can eventually encourage smokers to quit.
This conclusion is based on the results of the survey, which was initiated by the Duke University Medical Center and conducted among 209 smokers. The respondents were asked to indicate certain products or beverages which, in their opinion, deteriorate or enhance the taste of tobacco. 19% of them said that the taste of the cigarette smoke was getting worse when they ate dairy products.
14% of the respondents similarly described their reaction to the beverages that did not contain caffeine, like water or juice, and 16% of them did not recommend to eat vegetables and fruits just before smoking.
On the contrary, alcohol makes tobacco taste better (as was indicated by 44% of the respondents), but the most attractive for smokers are caffeinated drinks, like coffee, tea or coke (45%). Among other foods which do not discourage from smoking, the respondents named meat. It is interesting to note that those smokers who prefer cigarettes with menthol do not pay much attention to foods - for them, the taste of cigarettes virtually does not change no matter what they eat or drink.
The authors of the research think that it is theoretically possible to work out a certain “antitobacco” diet, which would make cigarettes taste bad and could become an additional encouragement for those who want to quit smoking.
